The Twelve Sermon Introduction: The Lord chose twelve men from among His many disciples to have a special relationship with Him and a special responsibility to Israel. Who were these men? Why were they chosen? What were they specifically called to do? Conclusion: These twelve men ministered to "the people" until the Lord died and after that, their ministry was greatly enlarged. How so? Their preaching was through the Holy Spirit in a new way. Next week we want to look at the changes that came into their ministry after the Lord ascended into heaven. ~ Pastor Elvin C. Myers
Private Interpretation Sermon introduction: It is assumed by many people that the Bible can be interpreted many ways, and they further insist that there is no one valid interpretation. A Bible verse is offered in support of this view, II Peter 1:20. Is that what the Holy Spirit had in mind when He inspired Peter to write this verse? Conclusion: It seems unreasonable to think that God meant several things by what He said and left it up to us to pick what we like. On the other hand, it seems reasonable to think that God meant one thing, and that it is our duty to find out what it is. This we can do if we apply ourselves to the task of studying the Word of Truth and rightly dividing it. ~ Pastor Elvin C. Myers
The Twelve - Part II Sermon introduction: From among the many disciples of the Lord, He selected twelve to minister to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. These men were baptized by John the Baptist and were his disciples first. John pointed out the Lord to them saying that Jesus was the Lamb of God who would take away the sins of the world. The twelve were forbidden to go to the Gentiles with their message. Conclusion: As the twelve ministered to Israel, they called for the Jews to repent and be converted to Christ. The contents of their message were found in the prophetic writings of the Old Testament and were given to them by the Lord personally. As far as can be seen from the Scriptures, they never went to the Gentile world, but even after the conversion of Saul of Tarsus, went to the Jews only. ~ Pastor Elvin C. Myers
Aspects of Salvation Sermon Introduction: The word "aspects" means features or distinct parts. Salvation is made up of many working parts which all work harmoniously together and they work together for our good. What are the distinct features of salvation? They are redemption, reconciliation, forgiveness, remission of sins, sanctification and righteousness/justification. Conclusion: These distinct features of salvation are all necessary, are all the works of God on our behalf, and are all by the grace of God. There are other aspects that we shall look at a later time. For these in the present study, we give praise to God for His wonderful works that are offered to us out of a heart of great love. We trust that you have availed yourself of what God offers us and are truly saved. ~ Pastor Elvin C. Myers
